Vitamins and Calcium for Peru
Fifty Lutherans and friends from the
Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod will fly to Lima, Peru
for a week in July to visit our Companion Church, the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peru. They will
host Vacation Bible School, Texas-style, for the
children there.
Here
at Lakeside, we will be collecting bottles of vitamins and
calcium tablets to be taken to the under-nourished moms
and children.
Look for the collection container in the narthex
during the month of June.
Contact Deanna Lamoreux for more information.
Quarterly Blood Drive
The mobile donor unit from the Gulf Coast
Regional Blood Center will be at Lakeside again on
Sunday, August 24, from 8:00 a.m. until
12:00 noon. If you are eligible to give blood, please
do so.
The need for blood donations go beyond what people see
on television and the news. Blood is needed for
individuals being treated for cancer, babies that are
born prematurely, individuals with anemia and much
more. Blood donations save lives and there is no
substitute. It must come from one individual to go to
another, and every donation can help save up to three
lives. That is why we encourage individuals to Commit
for Life and donate at least once every quarter. (From

Regional Blood Center

Houston Homeless Ministry -- Second Monday
As you clear out your wardrobes of clothing that no longer fits, remember the homeless ministry. The homeless have no storage closets and need new items as we serve them each month. Especially needed is men's clothing:
- t-shirts,
- button-front shirts,
- slacks,
- belts,
- socks,
- shoes,
- jackets,
- hats, and
- underwear in all sizes.
And the homeless are always grateful to receive a blanket or pillow. Clean clothing and bedding can be brought to Lakeside on the the Sunday preceding the Second Monday.
