Discipleship

Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.

-Luke 18:16-17

At Lakeside, we strive to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, and pass on these principles of discipleship to our children and youth as we grow together in faith.

Sunday Morning Education

On Sunday mornings, we gather to worship as well as to educate. Akaloo is our program for Pre-K through High School aged youth, as well as our Adult Forum. All of these take place at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings, between our two worship services.

Akaloo is lifelong faith formation for the whole congregation - children, youth, and adults. The name Akaloo is inspired by the Greek word ?????????? : akalouthein (“to follow”). Jesus said to those who would become his disciples, “Follow me.” Drop your nets. A new life awaits you.

Vacation Bible School

A week of adventure and fun for children, Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a week where children have the opportunity to encounter and further their understanding of God's Word. VBS takes place each summer with a new and exciting theme every year.

Confirmation Instruction

Our confirmation ministry program is designed to prepare students for the promises they will make during the Rite of Confirmation, which happens in the fall of their ninth grade year. The school year program is built around Bible study, The Divine Drama, Martin Luther's Small Catechism, and occasional field trips.

Senior & Junior High Youth Groups

When youth spend time together having fun or serving under the guidance of faithful adults, they grow together in faith and are prepared to become confident disciples of Christ. The groups meet monthly or bimonthly for fellowship with one another, service to the community, and study of God's word.

Milestones Ministry

Milestones engages families and the congregation together in identifying and celebrating meaningful events in our lives.  Recognizing that faith is “caught more than it is taught,”  our goal is to equip and empower parents, grandparents and other trusted adults to nurture faith and model a spiritual lifestyle in the home.

Part of our approach is to involve both parents and Faith Friends (mentors) in the children’s education ministries that lead to the celebration of Faith life Milestones.  In this cross-generational atmosphere, we can empower the adults and mentor them in raising children of faith, while educating the children as well.

Son Shiners

This is Lakeside’s fellowship and service group for kindergarten through 5th grade.  Children, parents and other caring adults meet once per month to serve others, have fun together, and build peer relationships.
